How it works

The Olababy training fork spears food with silicone prongs that are firm enough to hold a piece of pasta or fruit and soft enough for gums. Its design matches the leafy training spoon, whose flexible tip bends on contact, scoops from any angle and stands upright between bites.

Offer the spoon for purees and mashed foods, and the fork for pieces a toddler can stab. Both are sized for a child's hand: the fork is 4.61 inches tall and the spoon 4.53 inches.

Why parents choose it

  • Baby fork with firm-but-soft prongs that hold pasta, fruit and pancakes
  • Training fork paired with the leafy training spoon
  • Lets a toddler practice stabbing food with no metal near the mouth
  • Spoon tip flexes on contact and stands upright between bites

Who it is for

Good fit for
  • A toddler learning to stab as well as scoop, tagged 6 to 12 months and 12 months and up.
  • Small hands, since both utensils are sized for a child rather than cut down from adult cutlery.
  • A second set to leave at daycare or a grandparent house.
Not right for
  • A 6 month old on purees taking their first spoon. The training spoon is that step.
  • A baby not yet using utensils at all.
  • A complete mealtime kit. This set has no bowl or plate.

Short, chunky handles and a fork that actually spears soft foods let toddlers practice both utensil patterns without frustration.

Why Olababy

Every feeding product is one material, food-grade silicone, soft enough for gums that are still teething and inert enough to go through a dishwasher for years. The panel above names what is in it and what is kept out of it.

Olababy has designed in Portland, Oregon since 2015, with parents testing the things their own children eat from.

More about this one

Will a silicone baby fork actually pick up food?

Yes. The Olababy training fork has firm-but-soft silicone prongs that hold pasta, fruit and pancakes, so a toddler can stab a piece and bring it to the mouth. The prongs are soft enough for gums, which lets a child practice spearing with no metal near the mouth. The leafy training spoon in the same set takes over for foods that need scooping.

What is included

1 training fork + 1 training spoon.

How to clean it

Questions parents ask

What age is it made for?

Made for 6 to 12 months and 12 months and up.

What comes in the box?

1 training fork + 1 training spoon.

How do I clean it?

Dishwasher safe (top rack).

What is it made of?

100% high-purity food-grade silicone: BPA, PVC, lead, and phthalate free. Designed in Portland, Oregon.

How big is it?

It measures Training fork: 1.1" x 0.87" x 4.61"H (28 x 22 x 117 mm) - Training spoon: 0.94" x 0.87" x 4.53"H (24 x 22 x 115 mm). It weighs 2.5 oz.

More questions (7)

Is it okay that my baby chews on it?

Yes, mouthing and chewing are a normal part of learning to eat, and soft silicone is gentle on developing gums and teeth.

What utensils are best for baby led weaning?

Soft silicone utensils sized for baby hands work best for baby led weaning. Our leafy training spoon has a flexible tip that bends on contact and scoops from any angle, so an unrefined grasp still gets food to the mouth, and it stands upright so the tip never touches the table. For toddlers, the training fork’s firm-but-soft prongs genuinely hold pasta, fruit, and pancakes.

When can babies use a spoon?

Most babies are ready for spoon practice around 6 months, when solids begin. Early on, a long-handled feeding spoon lets you offer purees while baby watches and learns; as your baby starts grabbing for the spoon, a short training spoon with a boosted-grip handle supports self-feeding practice through the toddler years.

Is this safe for my baby?

Yes. Olababy feeding products are made from 100% high-purity food-grade silicone with no fillers, free of BPA, PVC, lead, and phthalates, and tested to FDA food-contact standards.

How do I clean and sterilize it?

Silicone products are dishwasher safe (top rack) and can be sterilized in boiling water or a steam sterilizer. Air-dry fully before storing.

What if it does not work for us?

Returns are accepted within 30 days of delivery (see our return policy for details). US shipping is free on orders over $49.

Does baby led weaning help a baby learn when they are full?

Laura Lucas, a senior clinical dietitian at Texas Children's Hospital, says one of the main benefits of baby led weaning is that it helps babies learn to recognise their own satiety levels, and that with proper handling and supervision it is safe for most babies who are developmentally ready.

What if my baby is unsure about a new texture?

Amy Klein, an occupational therapist at Cincinnati Children's, writes that for a baby who is not sure about a new taste or texture, self feeding gives them control to manipulate it in their mouth and swallow it or not, and that it also aids hand eye coordination.
