The problem with buying baby gear online

Every feeding brand says "non-toxic." Few explain what that means, where their material comes from, or how you could check. Parents are left comparing marketing pages, not facts. This page is our answer to the questions we think you should ask any baby brand — including us.

How we make our products

Olababy products are designed in Portland, Oregon, where we have been operating since 2015. Every product starts with a parent problem — a baby refusing the bottle, a spoon that frustrates self-feeding — and a developmental principle from pediatric feeding practice. We prototype in-house, test with real families, and iterate until the product earns its place.

What "food-grade silicone" actually means

"Food-grade" is a purity standard, not a marketing phrase. Our products use 100% high-purity food-grade silicone with no fillers, certified by our material supplier to the FDA food-contact standard for silicone, 21 CFR 177.2600. Silicone is inert — unlike plastics, it doesn't leach chemicals when heated, sterilized, or chewed. Every Olababy product is free of BPA, PVC, lead, and phthalates.

The finished products are tested too, by independent labs

• Training Cup with Lid + Straw — Shenzhen Tianqi Testing Technology, report no. TQT7737B769E (February 2026). Every colorway was tested separately against EN 14350:2020+A1:2023, ASTM F963, CPSIA, and the EU food-contact regulations EC 1935/2004 and EU 10/2011. BPA not detected; none of the seven phthalates regulated under REACH found in any color; lead, cadmium, mercury, arsenic and antimony below detection limits; overall migration below 3.0 mg/dm² across all four food simulants, against a 10 mg/dm² limit.
• Feeding + Training Spoon Set — tested by Shenzhen UONE Test Co.
• Silicone Mouthing Mitten — Shenzhen BCTC Testing Co., report no. BCTC2605350313R (issued May 9, 2026): the children's product certificate covering ASTM F963-23 and the CPSIA limits for total lead and phthalates. All tests pass.

Our electric nail trimmer is an electrical product rather than a food-contact one, so it carries different documentation: FCC Part 15 Subpart B emissions testing by Waltek Testing Group (report WTN22F07145521E) and UN 38.3 battery transport safety testing by the China Electronics Standardization Institute (report S19-B0219).

How to verify it yourself

• The pinch test: pure silicone stays its color when pinched and twisted; filler-heavy blends turn white at the stress point.
• Check the smell: pure silicone is odorless, including after dishwashing.
• Ask for documents: any brand should be able to produce food-contact test reports on request. We can — email sales@olababy.us and we will send the reports named above.

Olababy has been recognized by international design juries and parenting-industry award programs every year since 2016.

• Design: Red Dot Award: Product Design 2022 for the Silicone Training Fork + Spoon Set; iF Design Awards in 2016 (OlaSprout), 2018, and 2021.
• NAPPA (National Parenting Product Awards): two wins in 2018, and a further win in 2023.
• Mom's Choice Awards: the 2016 Gold Award for the OlaSprout baby training spoon, plus further recognition in 2017 and for new products in 2020.
• Good Housekeeping: 2021 Parenting Awards.
• JPMA Innovation Award 2021 (Juvenile Products Manufacturers Association).
• 2017 parenting-industry honors: Family Choice, Tillywig Parents' Favorite Products, Green Scene Mom, and Baby Maternity Magazine's Preferred Choice. The feeding spoon was also a Cribsie Awards 2017 finalist.

A note on pricing

We sell direct at the same price you'll find at our retail partners. When something on our site shows a struck-through price, that's a genuine discount from its regular everyday price — we don't inflate "original" prices to manufacture urgency.
