Is Olababy Legit? How We Make and Test Every Product
A direct answer to the question every parent should ask about a baby brand: who makes this, what is it made of, and how can I check?

Short answer: yes, Olababy is a real company in Portland, Oregon, operating since 2015, and every product is 100% food-grade silicone tested to FDA food-contact standards. Here's the longer answer, structured the way we'd want any brand to answer it.
The problem with buying baby products online
Search for a baby spoon and you'll find hundreds of near-identical listings with borrowed photos and unverifiable claims. For products that go in a baby's mouth, "probably fine" isn't a standard. You deserve to know who makes a product, what it's made of, and how to check.
Who we are
Olababy was founded in Portland, Oregon and has been selling since 2015, you can verify this yourself: our earliest products carry 2015 creation dates in our own catalog data, and our press history goes back to our original Kickstarter for the OlaSprout self-feeding spoon. Every product decision is filtered through input from real parents.
How we make products
Design happens in Portland. Each product starts from a parent pain point and a pediatric feeding principle, is prototyped in-house, and is tested with families before launch. Our silicone is batch-tested against the FDA's food-contact requirements for silicone rubber (21 CFR 177.2600), and we can provide food-contact test reports on request, email hello@olababy.us.
What "food-grade silicone" actually means
Food-grade silicone is a purity specification: high-purity silicone with no fillers, inert under heat and sterilization, free of BPA, PVC, lead, and phthalates. It doesn't leach chemicals the way plastics can, and it stays soft on developing gums.
How to verify authenticity yourself
- Pinch test: pure silicone keeps its color when pinched and twisted; filled blends whiten at the fold.
- Smell test: pure silicone is odorless, even out of the dishwasher.
- Buy from listed channels: our store, or the retailers on our Where to Buy page, marketplace listings outside those channels may not be ours.
- Ask us for documents: hello@olababy.us, we can produce food-contact test reports.
Our materials
We use 100% high-purity food-grade silicone across the feeding, drinking, and nursing lines; the glass nail file line uses tempered etched crystal glass.
A note on pricing
Direct prices match our retail partners. Struck-through prices are genuine markdowns from everyday prices, never inflated anchors.
