Olababy Training Spoon Guide: How to Teach Baby Self-Feeding
· Olababy

The Training Spoon is designed for the stage when your baby wants the spoon but can't yet use a regular one, usually 6 to 18 months. Here's how to get the most out of it.
Why the shape matters
The leafy tip is soft and flexible, so it scoops from any angle a baby manages to hit, no wrist rotation needed. It stands upright on the table, keeping the tip clean between bites, and the short boosted-grip handle matches a palmar grasp.
Stage 1 (around 6 to 8 months): the preloaded handoff
Load the spoon with something sticky, oatmeal, thick yogurt, mashed avocado, and hand it over or stand it on the tray. Baby's job is just to get it to their mouth. Expect misses; that's the practice.
Stage 2 (around 8 to 12 months): dipping
Teach dipping before scooping: hold a bowl of puree steady (or use a suction bowl) and let baby dip and lick. Dipping is an easier motion and builds the same map.
Stage 3 (around 12+ months): independent scooping
Move to foods with texture that holds, mashed potato, chia pudding, thick chili. A suction bowl gives resistance to push against. When scooping clicks, add the Training Fork for spearing practice.
Care
Dishwasher safe (top rack) and boil-safe for sterilizing. Silicone is gum-safe to chew, chewing the spoon is part of learning, not misuse.
General guidance, not medical advice, check with your pediatrician about your baby's feeding development.
