Top 5 Home Cooked Baby Food Recipes

Cooking at home for your baby creates a unique bond by spending time with each other and experiencing food together. Aside from bonding, cooking for your baby gives you the ability to really choose what food they eat.

As all parents know, the more nutritious the meals, the better it is for baby’s health and well-being. However if the taste is not appealing, feeding time will become an arduous task that all new parents will dread. To help out parents who are interested in making homemade baby food, we’d love to share with you some of our favorite nutritious and delicious meals to prepare for your sweetheart.

  1. First and foremost, we have to shout-out to the winner, Sarah Parker, of our SteamBowl giveaway on Instagram. Her recipe for Cinnamon Sweet Potatoes is absolutely delightful, and is a great way to combine a nutritious superfood with delicious flavors.
    1. Bake or steam a sweet potato
    2. When ready, puree with coconut oil
    3. Add milk/breastmilk to reach desired consistency
    4. Add cinnamon to taste

This recipe is baby-approved. Thanks for sharing your recipe, Sarah!

  1. Baby oats are great for starting solids. Plus, it is a great source of fiber, vitamins, and minerals. However, baby oats on their own can be very boring, so we recommend sweetening them up a bit with prunes (they boost nutrition, too!). Check out the recipe here.
  2. In order to make fruits more interesting, try pureeing two fruits together instead of one single fruit. One of our favorite combinations is apple and pear. The pairing is great especially when they are in season. Be sure to try this one at home
  3. Yogurt is a great way to get probiotics into your baby’s diet. However, just plain yogurt can get old fast. A fresh and sweet berry puree not only adds plenty of nutrients to your baby’s diet, but it will also brighten up the yogurt and give it a sweeter flavor. Here’s a great recipe to get started
  4. One of the most popular purees for babies is banana. It’s a great way to make sure your baby gets their fill, but also enjoys it. Babies love the sweet flavor of bananas. Plus, it is easy mash and is loaded with potassium. Try mixing a mango puree in with the banana and your baby will have a new set of flavors to enjoy. Tart and sweet goodness is just this way.

Our list of recipes can help any new or experienced parent bring fresh flavors and ingredients into their household. We love the idea of families cooking delicious meals for their children, with their children. It is what inspired the Olababy founders to create utensils for families to use – to make the process easier and more natural. So bring some adventure into the kitchen and try preparing these recipes with your little one. You may find yourself the perfect sous chef.
